What is ACM?
Australian Community Managers is the home of community builders and community managers in Australia. Founded in 2009, we support our members with: training in community management practices and new tools, techniques or issues impacting their work; resources and templates; events with peers and industry leaders; mentoring and career coaching; research; and an amazing community for working-out-loud together.
As the leading representative of the community management in our region, ACM also regularly consults with government, researchers and other peak bodies around online community management (including moderation and governance, digital engagement and social media platforms).
We intentionally bring together community practitioners across all industries and sectors to learn from each other. Here you'll find people working for large corporations, not-for-profit organisations, volunteer groups and more. Though there are important differences, the core of community practice remains the same, and that's what we're all about.
What's a Community Manager?
A Community Manager is a person responsible for stewarding a community - steering it's focus and function, helping maintain it's culture, and keeping it safe and healthy for participants. Community managers work in every industry and sector - across communities of purpose, practice, interest, circumstance, location and more. They manage professional associations, and neighbourhood volunteer groups. Customer support forums and social media fan clubs. It's their job to generate shared value for everyone involved - users or members, and any organisation or brand hosting that community. Though most community management is done online these days, community building and managing can happen anywhere.
This group is about community management as a practice - wherever it happens.

Do I have to be Australian to join ACM?
Nah. Our members and participants are mainly Australian, but we have folks in the community from all over the world, including some of the world's best community specialists. Sometimes it's important to have discussions focused on our local specifics, but we think it's invaluable to welcome diverse perspectives that can challenge and teach us. So if you're not an Aussie but you're keen to join, jump on board as a free member or an ACM Pro member. We'd love to meet you!
Can I invite people to join ACM?
Of course! If you know someone doing the work of community, or who wants to learn more about it, tell them to come on in and say hi. As long as they're happy to sign on to our Community Guidelines, they're welcome here.
